• Hi Guest, The forum will be moving hosts on 26 July and as such will be closed from Midday until the move has completed.
As we will be with new hosts it may take a while before DNS get updated so it could take while before you can get back on the forum.
I think it will take at least 4 hours but could easily be 48!

  • Sorry for the ongoing issues that you may have been experiencing whilst using the forum lately

It really is frustrating when the forum slows down or Server Error 500 pops up.

Apparently the hosts acknowledge there is a problem.
Thank you for using our services and sorry for the experienced delay!
Unfortunately, these errors are due to a higher server load. Our senior department knows about the issue and they are working towards a permanent resolution of the issue, however, I'd advise you to consider using our new cPanel cloud solutions: https://www.tsohost.com/web-hosting

I will have to investigate what the differences are with what We have know compared to the alternative service they want us to migrate to.
    Keep safe.

Where to start?!?

Hi Everybody, I've been looking at the posts on the forum for a couple of weeks now before posting and from viewing the posts everybody seems to be very helpful (not always the case in some forums) which is Great.

So here it comes (queue the face palms) I'm very new to horse racing but I've Always been fascinated with looking at the form guides in the newspapers etc and for the past month I've been trying my best wheh it comes to reading form ..I'm still struggling (which is fine, anything new is a challenge at the start ) I know what the numbers weights Letters etc mean it's the finding form I find hard - it's like "ahh this horse runs well on this ground ..oh so does this horse ..oh and this one haha!!

I'm certainly not here to ask people to baby feed me I guess it's more of a point in the right direction. I've brought a few books on eBay to study aswell - as well as buying the racing post to look at etc.

But the amount of races is overwhelming I read on a few websites that Begginers should focus on one type of race to start with - so I made the decision to go with 2M Novice Hurdle Races and look for those ..I'm rambling here and I guess it shows that I'm a little out of depth but very willing to learn.

I'm not in this to make money that's certainly not my draw I've just become really interested in the sport. So I've got a few questions.

1. Would you guys suggest I stick to one type of race ?
2. What strategy would you suggest to a begginer when looking at a horse? I know that's more of a 'how long is a piece of string question'
3. What did you guys do when you started ?
4. I always try to not look at the favourite - is this right ?

I could list of a load of questions and I certainly don't want it to look like I've not done any reading , my own research etc as I've spent hours and it's not sinking in (I'm well aware that this a skill that takes time) hence buying books aswell.

Just any pointers would be very appreciated, apologies if this post is in the wrong place.

Thanks
