I really like the perspective here, good planning and a cracking coupA difficult question but will stick with my first thought The Cambridgeshire. Far less so now but back in the day the autumn double used to be a real big deal with vibrant ante post markets and loads of advance press coverage highlighting the gambles and plots. Lots of memories good and less so over the years but one of the former came more recently when Spark Plug won the 2016 race.
I backed him a month earlier @ 33/1 ante post and then experienced the normal highs and lows would i get a run who would ride and would the draw impact. He declared to run at the 48hr Dec stage and was 12/1 in the new market with draw and rider deemed OK so you might think job done ............but not to be because an autumn heat wave was drying the ground.
On the morning of the race i was gob smacked to learn that the official going was now G-F (firm in places) and Newmarket had not watered because a heavy dew was Fc which had not occurred. ! Tbh i swore some and mentally wrote off my money accepting that the fast ground had sabotaged my bet but a few hours later Sparkie proved me wrong in the best possible way.
While writing the above i have been glancing at a picture of him on my study wall hosing up by > 2 lens to give me a very good earn indeed and this type is certainly helpful during the more frequent occasions when these things do not go to plan. !
Hi CheshamSlip Anchor winning the Derby and landing a anti post bet At 10/1 Steve Cauthen rode a brilliant race and was one of the rare jockeys who could Judge pace
