• Hi Guest, The forum will be moving hosts on 26 July and as such will be closed from Midday until the move has completed.
As we will be with new hosts it may take a while before DNS get updated so it could take while before you can get back on the forum.
I think it will take at least 4 hours but could easily be 48!

  • There seems to be a problem with some alerts not being emailed to members. I have told the hosts and they are investigating.

  • Sorry for the ongoing issues that you may have been experiencing whilst using the forum lately

It really is frustrating when the forum slows down or Server Error 500 pops up.

Apparently the hosts acknowledge there is a problem.
Thank you for using our services and sorry for the experienced delay!
Unfortunately, these errors are due to a higher server load. Our senior department knows about the issue and they are working towards a permanent resolution of the issue, however, I'd advise you to consider using our new cPanel cloud solutions: https://www.tsohost.com/web-hosting

I will have to investigate what the differences are with what We have know compared to the alternative service they want us to migrate to.
    Keep safe.

You will know better than me but if you post something on lets say on twitter you are responsible for your words and i would have thought the same rules would apply to this and other forums.

As far as I see it everyone is individually responsible for what they put out there in cyberspace, be it twitter, Facebook or a forum such as this.
I would suggest though that a difference of opinion on a specialist forum such as this one is a little bit different from writing items in a national newspaper, so we as mods are surely allowed to let discussions sometimes carry on into more interesting territory.

I'd suggest that whilst you'd imagine that posting insulting stuff amounts to opening up possible libel suits, there'd be a great reluctance to allow a successful prosecution for much of what passes as insults or banter (as it is usually misnamed) on the internet - apart from the freedom of the press sort of thing, the sheer volume of insulting, defamatory material on the internet surely makes it highly unlikely that a court would give a complainant the oxygen.... allow one successful prosecution for Mr X who objected to being called a knob by Mr Y and there'd be a veritable flood of ambulance chasers following very close behind to clog up the arteries of the legal system for decades to come.

I've always thought being nice on the internet was really more to do with a general wish that the whole thing would not sinking into a morass of anger and filth than a wish to avoid litigation.

Longer term members might re call a past one hayzee hayzee much missed imo but the old sod still keeps in touch with me via e mail and and although he suffers various physical aliments he maintains his sense of humor. One of my forum pleasures used to be winding him up, a very dangerous game to play and invariably i got the worst of it but always worth the risk.

He has just reminded me of the glorious day when he bite so bad that while responding he forgot about his lovingly prepared home made pasta sauce and burnt it, i mean you would think it was the end of the world. Now that was a Hall Of Fame job. :)

Much talk currently about this Xmas or lack of, there may be a lock down but this forum remains open for business. I normally post on Christmas day an excuse to escape some of the visitor madness which will be neither a problem or excuse this year but i shall try to find something to say. It may be the time to pounce if Admin have drink taken. :) It has long been my ambition to sneak in with a second identity just imagine the entertaining arguments i could then have with my other self. !

I have just noticed that currently we have 50 people looking in 25 members and 25 guests. If we can get half the latter to join and half the former to post then we have cracked it. :)

I’ve been having a bit of look around as I’ve been gone so long. Not sure how many “active“ members there are mick mick but the members list is a bit diverse... just looking on the first page and apart from the Uk there’s minimal or no activity from members who claim to be registered in Australia, Japan, Bulgaria, Las Vegas, Thailand, Russia, Kenya, New York, Nigeria, Romania and errrr Scotland.:confused:. Who’d have thought that a cold wet wintry night at Southwell could interest so many people..... 🙄

Hi Sigster Sigster and welcome home. Re your above converting Reg members to regular contributors will prove difficult for any forum, but my guess is this one does so better than most. I used to get wound up Re lurkers but no longer so because they are the losers who by failing to actively engage with the rest of us never get the best from this great forum.

While on this subject it appears to me that during the past year our activity has stood up well at a time when it would have been understandable if this has proved otherwise, so cheers to all involved and now with the vaccine ( and turf flat ) i am hopeful that matters will improve even further. :)

There are some great reads on here daily now. Its a fab place to be and seems to produce a neverending list of things to add to my "to-do" notebook.

I wish this place had been around 35 years ago, would have saved me so much heartache following dead ends and dodgy systems.
