• Hi Guest, The forum will be moving hosts on 26 July and as such will be closed from Midday until the move has completed.
As we will be with new hosts it may take a while before DNS get updated so it could take while before you can get back on the forum.
I think it will take at least 4 hours but could easily be 48!

  • There seems to be a problem with some alerts not being emailed to members. I have told the hosts and they are investigating.
  • Sorry for the ongoing issues that you may have been experiencing whilst using the forum lately

It really is frustrating when the forum slows down or Server Error 500 pops up.

Apparently the hosts acknowledge there is a problem.
Thank you for using our services and sorry for the experienced delay!
Unfortunately, these errors are due to a higher server load. Our senior department knows about the issue and they are working towards a permanent resolution of the issue, however, I'd advise you to consider using our new cPanel cloud solutions: https://www.tsohost.com/web-hosting

I will have to investigate what the differences are with what We have know compared to the alternative service they want us to migrate to.
    Keep safe.

Does anyone remember a book called The Solidus by Davey Towey.?It was published back in 1993 and I believe the author created some software based on the book. There was a plethora of software programs emerging around about that time as the PC was on the rise.Pro-Punter was popular and so was compunter and combayes.
I tried searching online for a copy of the solidus but nothing on Amazon or Ebay.Anyone here remember or have a copy.

I think that might be Simple Software it's SLQ based and been around for a long time...

People e-mail me and ask about my own betting strategy. Above is an example of one strategy but I just do a plain level bet to win at Betfair and only bet a percentage of my `pot` each day. I try and get the best odds as I can. I contunually analyse all the results of 117,399 flat races and 82,270 hunt races since 1994 (at 30/07/2014) and tried to find the best way to use the program.
When I started Simple Software Racing in 1994, it was based on Davey Towey`s book `The Solidus`, under his direction. We input the results data ourselves from the Racing Post and the Sporting Life newspapers.
Davey didn`t like the All Weather and there were no co-efficents for the Irish courses in his book either. Some of the figures in the book were changed by Davey in Biro in the copy I worked from.
When he disappeared to Ireland, I managed to get a daily data supply, continued with the MS-DOS version and wrote the first Windows version of the software.

I used the Racing Sense Software and updates for a couple of years. (Many Years back) The Speed Specialist on here TheBluesBrother TheBluesBrother , davejb davejb and O Outlander have more reliable ratings in my opinion
I used the software too, as well as owning the book (which seemed quite scientific at the time). Never used it to much effect though. The class charts were interesting, but chose not to adhere to them too much
