Paddy power merged with BF and it is now Paddy Power Betfair.
Ladbrokes own Betdaq
Quite few members like to take early odds with Bookmakers.

Hi Chesam,
Blooming Ada...I have just finished reading the wikpedia history of betfair.I had wondered about BF when it started all that casino bollocks on site.I wonder how a genuine exchange would fair in the UK and Ireland if somebody had enough pennies to make it happen.

I think when the Exchanges came on the scene a lot of people thought it was easy to play bookie......not so much these days.
Very little money in a lot of races early on. Most of the money late on these days is the traders' money.

"enough pennies"
It's a shame the racing authorities don't own a exchange themselves as a way of funding the sport, if that makes any sense.

The Tote should have morphed into a racing owned exhange, but even then they would be as they've always been and wouldn't have been able to keep their fingers out of the till re take out.

Blame Maggie for some of this - but W Wyat did the idea of state run bookie not much good

A dilemma indeed,so the punters saviour joins forces with the old enemy!!!.It seem the tote is now owned by betfred, the governments drive to privatise eveything on planet earth(including the NHS) certainly doesn't do us ordianry folk any favours!
