Snooker

...... looks like Ronnie's effort was too little too late as he went down in a nail biting finish 10-9. Looks like the effort he made was far too late to give himself a decent chance. Full marks to Neil Robertson though as he has come back strongly from the wilderness. ;)
Yes went from 3-2 down to 7-2 down, possibly reaction to previous night? Then on the evening won the first 5 then traded blows to be 9-8 up before Robertson won the last 2 frames. Only 2 centuries in the game so shows how exceptional his 2 maximums and 4 clearances were the evening before. I suppose Robertson having the longer rest must have helped him as well.

From the Daily Mirror today - I wonder what Bingham would do if he stopped playing snooker? Loves the game. He reached the final of that event in Hong Kong in March so not in terrible shape. I know weight loss doesn't always work, certainly in Darts affects the balance a little. Anyway good luck to him and hope it goes well.

The veteran snooker ace, who only has fewer maximum breaks than Ronnie O'Sullivan, John Higgins, Stephen Hendry and Shaun Murphy, has put emphasis on his health in recent times. Bingham lost three-and-a-half stone earlier this year after taking weekly fat-loss injections and has seen his cue placement change.

"I’m getting my eyes sorted out," Bingham said. “I spoke to Judd Trump about it and he said he had laser surgery – where lens replacement is for old people. I said: ‘You cheeky sod.’

“It’s getting to a point where I have tried everything else and I have noticed the last 3-4 months, my eyes are getting worse. It might be down to a lack of confidence.

“Hopefully it will be the key I am trying to unlock.

“It’s like throwing a dice really. It is only going to help my life away from the table. I know Anthony Hamilton had it done, however many years ago.

“Hopefully I will roll the dice and it will come good for me. This season has not been great. I’m trying to find my game. I have a new cue. But I’m still twitching a bit here and there. It’s hard to get that confidence."

Bingham has also battled with the yips this year. The ex-Masters champion has worked with hypnotherapist Chris O'Connor in a bid to resolve the issue.

Keeping up with the Woollastons - snooker's family affair.

Ben Woollaston shot into the snooker spotlight with his surprising first-round win against Mark Selby at the World Championship.
It was a match between friends and practice partners from Leicester, and one that Selby said before the draw he hoped to avoid.
While Selby coughed up what he described as a "pathetic" performance to lose 10-8, Woollaston celebrated arguably the best result of his career in what became a post-midnight finish.
A first win at the famous Crucible theatre has been a long time coming for Woollaston, who is now 37.
He has suffered with chronic fatigue in recent years and said he was so sickly he was "green" before the final session against Selby.
But if the surname rings a bell, then that might not be entirely down to Ben's snooker achievements alone.
Wife Tatiana is one of the sport's leading referees.
She is not allowed to take charge of Ben's matches to avoid any possible accusations of a conflict of interest, but has officiated on many of the sport's big occasions and first appeared at the World Championship in 2020.

'I'd never heard of him'

Ben Woollaston turned professional at the age of 17, and, as might be expected, found it tough initially to get the wins to stay on tour.
He flitted between professional and amateur ranks, but since 2009 has been a fixture on the main tour.
It was while in Germany for the Paul Hunter Classic in 2010 that Tatiana, making her way in the game as a European Billiards and Snooker Association referee, first encountered Ben.
They married in 2011.
Tatiana later told BBC Sport: "I had never heard of him. When we met he was 70 or 80 in the world.
"I think it improved him a lot and has given him motivation. Maybe it inspired him."
Woollaston is 44th for now with 2024-25 season earnings of £139,900... and counting. He has been as high as 25th. ;)

Off to China now on Sunday the start of the Wuhan Open, last year an all Chinese Final with Xiao Guodong defeating Si Jiahui. Xiao has had a quiet start to the year having missed Saudi to compete in the World Games, which he won beating Michael Georgiou an ex professional in the Final. Missed out on a half million prize chance though.

These are the games held over from the First Round, 4 of them with Chinese wildcards, only Jinhao I have a rating for. These best of 9 frames on Sunday.

As mentioned earlier scoring is usually easier in China and this event last year certainly was.

So Round 2 or the last 64 also starts on Sunday. Those in blue are the first round games still to complete. Star of he season, Reanne Evans meets Neil Robertson, prize money leader for the season. Quite a tough game for her in the hope Neil is still on a super high after his Saudi win.

...... wow! Ronnie is surpassing himself appearing in two tournaments in a row. Must be good money on offer here to do such things! ;)

Had 200 quid ready as my bank. However unforseen circumstances mean £150 was needed elsewhere. I can't be bothered planning for 50 pound so have decided to just chuck it all on like a drunken sailor and see if I get lucky💸🎲🎯🃏. Saw a couple of tips for Slessor and hope he can bring his form from Saudi.

Outright. Eliot Slessor 33/1 £5 each way. Win £257.50. Runner Up £87.50.

Ford 5 Pinhey 3 4/1 £5 pays £25
Williams 5 Davies 2 3/1 £5 pays £20
Murphy 5 Brown 2 10/3 £5 pays 21.66
K.Wilson 5 Hill 3 4/1 £5 pays £25
Higgins 5 Emery 1 3/1 £5 pays £20
Selby 5 Holt 2 3/1 £5 pays £20
Fu 5 White 1 3/1 £5 pays £20
Slessor 5 Grace 2 15/4 £5 pays £23.75. Could be a short tournament.⏳

...... come on Ronnie! A Chinese event and you love the colour of their money! Still more than capable of winning events like this and he should be aiming for creating records that will stand for years to come. ;)

Oh well missed lots on this.
Ronnie withdrew and replaced by German amateur, Umut Dikme who lost to Allan Taylor.
Neil Robertson withdrew and Reanne Evans makes the last 32 to play Pinhey or Ford.
Ryan Day withdrew, don't know why, Lisowski into last 32.

These the remaining 2nd Round games tomorrow. Wang Xinbo the wildcard beat Robbie Williams.

...... how surprising Ronnie withdrawing, what a berk he is becoming. I'm fast losing patience with his stupid antics. Why he just does not settle down like every one else I'll never know. Could have a screw loose. Would be good if he just got on with it and accepted whatever came along. ;)

probably still buzzing from winning £1/2 million last week, Robertson also. They still probably counting it all.

Nearly a quarter of a million for O'Sullivan, half for Robertson. Clearly the moticvation not there. I thought O'Sullivan had sponsors in China to help his bills. Clearly not too bothered with them.

Today Kyren Wilson out to Aaron Hill and Ding played like the name of his conqueror Stan Moody, who to be fair potted very well. Ding looked like he couldn't be bothered after a century in the first frame, no patience.

Another maximum today, 2 this week - Xiao yesterday and another for Thepchaiyah today, only £5,000 this week to share unlike the £50,000 last week.

Last 32 tomorrow and best of 9 frames still. Tom Ford as 3rd lowest on my ratings gets the plum draw against Reanne. Trump has Lisowski again. Lots of the second set of 16 (17-32 on official rankings) still in and quite a competitive event now.

Thought Ronnie got 200k + 147k for the 2 147s, plus 50k high break, maybe had to share some of that. Never seen Ronnie as high as he was after that semi final, bouncing off the roof.
Ah fofgot the 147 for 2 maximums. He got 2/3rds of the 50,000 the other to Thepchaiyah.

Aaargh! Why didn't I stick to my usual Guodong each way. His price has been slashed.

Aaron Hill adds former world champion Kyren Wilson to list of scalps at Wuhan Open.

Aaron Hill added another feather to his cap at the Wuhan Open this afternoon by defeating 2024 world champion Kyren Wilson 5-2 at the Optics Valley Gymnasium.

Hill has already beaten the likes of Ronnie O'Sullivan, Judd Trump and Mark Selby in tournament play, and this was another impressive victory in the career of the young Cork pro against the in-form world number two.

The duo had clashed at the exact same stage of last year's tournament, when Wilson had far too much for Hill, whitewashing him 5-0.

The 23-year-old knew he would have to take the game to The Warrior, who won the recent Shanghai Masters, and he did just that, knocking in consecutive breaks over 50 in the first three frames, culminating with a 124 century in the third.

That was enough for a 2-1 lead, with the Irishman taking the last frame before the interval to leave him just two frames from victory.

A break of 56 in the fourth left him on the brink, before a couple of scrappy frames saw Hill eventually get over the line.

The challenge now for the world number 47 will be to see how far he can go in these rankings events, having shown that he can beat the world's best on his day.

Next up for Hill is a meeting with Lei Peifan in the last 32, after the Chinese player saw off Jimmy Robertson 5-3.

Thepchaiya Un-Nooh fired the second maximum break of the tournament as he cruised to a 5-1 win over China's Pang Junxu.

The Thai star reeled off five frames in a row, culminating in his memorable 147, in the course of booking his place in the third round.

Un-Nooh’s feat followed Xiao Guodong’s 147 in his opening match against Mink Nutcharut on Sunday.

Xiao continued his good form with a 5-2 win over Ishpreet Singh Chadha on Monday.

Mark Allen set up a last-32 clash with Hossein Vafaei, after seeing off Zak Surety 5-1, with a top break of 120.

Teenager Stan Moodie rose to the occasion to stun experienced Ding Junhui and stun the home crowd with a 5-3 win.

The 18-year-old Moodie fired four breaks over 50 including a 131 in the fifth frame to seal arguably the most impressive win of his young career.

Judd Trump continued his comfortable progress with a 5-1 win over Liu Hongyu, but John Higgins revealed he may take time off after crashing to a 5-1 loss to Dylan Emery.

Higgins, who recently celebrated his 50th birthday, told wst.tv: "I’m struggling for the motivation. I think I might take a month off and see where I am after this. I don’t know if I should have come out here." ;)

Last 16 tomorrow and still best of 9 frames.

Wilson beats Murphy but now faces Trump who is still a little below his best but Lisowski continues to struggle against him.
Maguire continues in great form beating the World Champion from well behind in the decider. Other than the 4 semi finalists last week remains the top earner this season.
Another good win for Moody, the lowest ranked official rating left in, improving well. There weren't many centuries today but Moody put some decent breaks of over 50 in. He is now rated 43rd on mine and 57th officially. Should be fun against consistent Hawkins.
Williams v Selby game of the day, Selby 3rd on my ratings and Williams 7th, both playing close to best.
Aaron Hill won the decider against Lei and a tougher game against Zhang tomorrow.
