A thread to lighten the mood a little and hopefully provide some good memories
I suppose all these firsts formed my betting profile as it is today and is how I remember them although I maybe a year or so out on dates
FIRST BET 1968 only 7years old but sixpence provided by my father on red alligator in the grand national set the tone for the next 50 years
FIRST HERO the first horse I really remember people talking about and me watching its running on tv was brigadier gerard . I would look at each days paper to see if it was running and was always the favourite in my games of escalado
FIRST RACE MEETING living very close to the course it had to be thirsk .a horse called Lochanger running there and doing great things later in the mid 70s
FIRST BIG PRICED WINNER about 1978 a horse called beau niece had run at thirsk I'd backed it next time out at Leicester at 20/1 and I can still remember putting the racing results on radio 2 and hearing his name first and winning what was more than a week's wage
FIRST FORM BOOKS all bought in the same week. timeform ..haigh annual and for some reason horses in training
FIRST TIPS bought .. I can't remember the tipster but the advert was so convincing that I sent my fiver off on the Monday and duly recieved the next 2 weeks losers for my troubles
FIRST CREDIT ACCOUNT OPENED Selwyn demmy why I chose a independent from Manchester I don't know but the statements where very neat and tidy
FIRST CREDIT ACCOUNT CLOSED Stan James I'd only had a couple of bets with them aswell.
I hope you have fun remembering your firsts
All the best for the new year
