Excel

I use Excel to collate the information I use to assess a race. The information is taken from several sites, the main ones being HRB and RP. I copy the card from HRB and then add various information to create my ratings.

This is quite a time consuming process and given my limited knowledge of Excel, I wonder whether anyone could advise me whether it is possible to get Excel to do the bulk of the work for me? I'm not sure how easy, or possible, it is to only take certain information from a website e.g. take certain TS figures from the RP website each day.

I know there are a few tech-savy members on here and I would be grateful for any advice.

An additional query if I may:

If I have all the daily race cards copied into Excel, is it possible to sum the last 3 figures in the form line that are all in one cell?

Also is it possible to remove 'class' from LR Class to leave just the class number? i.e can a highlight a whole column and remove the word 'class'?

Hi martin_85 martin_85,

Since no tech-savvy members have responded yet, I'll put in my low-tech 2p worth :)

Have you confirmed that you cannot create your ratings within HRB using their ratings functionality? If so...

... There is a utility posted here Desperate cry for help please | Page 3 | The UK Betting Forum
which can scrape the RP racecards into Excel each day.

This will get you all of the TS ratings each day, but you would then need to define the rule about which TS ratings you want to pick up to use for your ratings.
If you could post up exactly what it is you want to achieve, hopefully someone can help you out with a solution.

Regarding your second post, I think the answer will be yes, but it would be easier if you posted an example spreadsheet so someone could then re-post the same sheet back with an example solution for you.

Hi martin_85 martin_85 what I used to do was insert another col at the side of the class on and type in the first spare cell, =Right(cell number,1) that will give you just the class number, insert another col and copy only the the values into that col then delete the others

Thank you for your response ronin ronin Any advice is appreciated and that RP link looks very useful. My only real concern with using only HRB for ratings is I'm not massively confident in the speed ratings, though I haven't looked into them in a huge amount of detail to be fair.

I'll see where I can get to with the RP link and whether I need to post my spreadsheet up. My issue is that by the time I've collated all this information, I sometimes can't be bothered to review it!

Thanks Ronald Shaw Ronald Shaw I managed to find the 'Right' function yesterday to do just what you suggested for the class issue so thank you for suggesting that. I tried to use it on the form figures too but I can't get the three to sum from the same cell.

Hi martin_85 martin_85

Is this extracting 3 numbers from a single cell thing something I can see on the public part of HRB or is it only for subscribers?
If you post up an example I can maybe/probably write something to extract the bits you want.

Hi ronin ronin

It's just when I copy the form line into Excel, so for example the last five runs were 56313 and those five figures end up in one cell. I want to add the last three races (313) to get a form rating of 7 but because they are all in the same cell, I can't get them to sum. This is then further complicated by the fact that is there is a P/U/F etc then I ignore that run and select the next finishing position. This isn't much of an issue though and if any horses with that just had an error then I could manually calc that.

Hope that makes sense.

Hi Martin martin_85 martin_85 i can only suggest in this case is to split up the cell into whatever you want using text to columns function on the data tab

i got to say this dos work had a place bet 3rd 25/1 got 6/1 on betfair place and had 2 winners 4/1,7/4,i just look for one in each race if 2 i dont do,
