ELO VERSUS POWER RATINGS.

.... OK so we had our first batch of football results since we were in lockdown. It is not the first batch really but we now reach a point where around five games have been played which makes our ratings look a little more believable. Still early day as yet as things have not really settled down and particularly with the fans missing. This last weekend The Paul Steele Power ratings fared quite badly against those of the Elo Ratings. Not that they performed at all well either, but look at this point a little more respectable than Paul Steele's formula. So getting down to the first results of Steele v Elo we have a clear win for Elo Ratings by 4 correct to only 1 Steele correct, so could take a few more matches to really see just where we stand, and what ratings will prove to be a bit more worthy of following. ;)

..... here are this week's Elo Ratings:-
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE.
Aston V 1683 v Leeds U 1643 40 X
West Ham U 1710 v Manchester C 1945 -235 2
Fulham 1563 v Crystal P 1679 -116 2
Manchester U 1832 v Chelsea 1815 17 X

Brighton & H A 1651 v W.B.A. 1575 76 1
Burnley 1690 v Tottenham H 1821 -131 2
A point worth mentioning was the draw predicted above in post number 80 where the rating prediction was spot on.;)

..... a little bit better response from the Paul Steele Power Ratings this past weekend, after the drubbing received. So honours were even at 4-4 so we are looking for more solid predictions in the coming weeks. ;)

..... this weekend's Elo Ratings have five different alternatives to Paul Steele Power ratings, so it should be interesting to see how this weekend's contest performs.
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE.
Wolverhampton W 1775 v Crystal P 1695 80 1
Sheffield U 1663 v Manchester C 1954 -291 2
Burnley 1693 v Chelsea 1827 -134 2
Liverpool 1977 v West Ham U 1726 251 1

Fulham 1568 v W.B.A. 1591 -23 X
Leeds U 1665 v Leicester C 1787 -122 2
3 decent looking draws predicted in these ratings.;)

..... well, another week of football bites the dust and there always appears to be shocks along the way. How about Southampton winning a seven goal thriller at Aston Villa and the Magpies Newcastle United beating Everton 2-1 at St.James Park. Anyway getting back to the ratings, once again the Elo Ratings got the better of the Paul Steele Power Ratings but only just 6-5, to register another win for Elo and leave the Steele Ratings still looking for their first win. Maybe this weekend may see them fare a little better. ;)

.... OK here are this weekend's Elo Ratings all ready to go:-
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE.
Brighton & H A 1662 v Burnley 1691 -29 X
Southampton T 1752 v Newcastle U 1706 46 X

Leicester C 1798 v Wolverhampton W 1789 9 X
Manchester C 1969 v Liverpool 1987 -18 X
Arsenal 1826 v Aston V 1676 150 1
Lots of close games highlighted and lots of draws in the making. How true will this be?

.... these ratings are ahead of schedule due to the International break and are played weekend 21st November:-

Sheffield U 1673 v West Ham U 1736 -93 2
Leeds U 1668 v Arsenal 1813 -145 2
.... last week's contest between the Steele Power ratings and the Elo Ratings was again a tight affair, but glad to say the the Steele ratings came out on top in a very good week for both, by 7-6. Nice to see the Steele Power Ratings making their comeback, it does seem as if they need a few more matches played to become more effective. ;)

..... OK we are up and running again after the dreaded Internationals. Here are the Elo Ratings for this weekend:-
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE.
Crystal P 1703 v Newcastle U 1696 7 X
Brighton & H A 1677 v Liverpool 2010 -333 2
Manchester C 1963 Burnley 1704 259 1

Chelsea 1872 v Tottenham H 1865 7 X
Arsenal 1809 v Wolverhampton W 1787 22 X
Leicester C 1820 v Fulham 1582 248 1
West Ham U 1747 v Aston V 1693 54 X

Four games ther looking tightish.

Last week's contest for the top dog spot between The Paul Steel Power Ratings and The Elo ratings ended all square at 6-6 so a very evenly fought contest this last weekend. ;)

..... OK another weekend upon us and another set of Ratings to try and establish if there is a likelihood to be any outright winners:-
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE.
Aston V 1691 v Newcastle U 1707 -16 X POSTPONED.
Burnley 1698 v Everton 1737 -39 X
Manchester C 1970 v Fulham 1581 399 1

Liverpool 1981 v Wolverhampton W 1795 186 1
Brighton & H A 1682 v Southampton T 1760 -68 2

The contest last weekend between Elo and Paul Steele Ratings was evenly balanced once again at 2-2 which was quite a low scoring weekend with some strange unexpected results. Nevertheless it is still a useful exercise to see how these two methods fare and should prove interesting once again this weekend. ;)

.... another weekend over and another one nearly ready to take it's place. Here are this weekend's Elo Ratings.
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE.
Leeds U 1662 v West Ham U 1739 -77 2

Arsenal 1796 v Burnley 1695 101 1
Leicester C 1789 v Brighton & H A 1672 117 1
Leeds v West Ham look the closest thing to a draw this weekend. ;)

The contest between Elo and Paul Steele ended in another tight affair with Elo edging the top dog spot once again by 8-7, so all to play for. ;)

..... Ok another weekend to see who comes out top dog in the ratings weekly battle Here are this weeks rendering of Elo Ratings:-

Chelsea 1858 v West Ham U 1740 118 1

Last weekend's ratings battle ended with a narrow win for the Paul Steele Ratings by 7-6 so onwards towards this week's contest. ;)

..... the Christmas break lasted longer than I expected with the fixtures literally all over the place due to the covid outbreak. We have now updated everything and we are ready to go again.
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE.
Everton 1768 v Newcastle U 1649 1
Crystal P 1683 v Wolves 1741 2

Leicester C 1822 v Leeds U 1677 1
West Ham U 1758 v Liverpool 1935 2
Brighton & H A 1665 v Tottenham H 1845 2
Looks to be two tight games predicted there:- The West Brom and the Southamton games look close. ;)

..... bit of a disjointed weekend as far as results go, and of course the ratings suffered along with some of the odd scorelines. This weekend's contest between Elo and Paul Steele Power Ratings resulted in a slender win for the Elo Ratings 4-3 so they just edge things this week as we go forward towards another contest next week hoping for a win for the Steele ratings. ;)

..... OK the fixture list has settled down again. Ratings for thisweekend:-
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE.
Leicester C 1809 v Liverpool 1923 2

West Ham U 1759 v Sheffield U 1628 1
Chelsea 1847 v Newcastle U 1667 1
Three tight matches up there. ;)

..... the battle for top dog in the ratings weekly contest resulted in a triumph for The Paul Steele Power Ratings by 7 correct to 5 correct for the Elo Ratings. The Steele Ratings Powered into an early lead and were actually 3 ahead until an Arsenal win pulled them back to respectability. It is always interesting to discover which set of ratings are doing what they are meant to do in an effort to predict the most winners accurately each week. ;)

.... OK here are the Elo Ratings for this weekend:-
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE.
Wolves 1758 v Leeds U 1694 1
