Yes, I used to bet with Barry in those days. He gave me a few sharp words sometimes, but, not a bad bloke, imo.
His sons were/are clever. They were big into the internet.
The day Kriskin won the Derby, I was there ( in Tatts) way too early. It was a blazing hot day. I was sitting on one bench, and he was on the next one, eating a sandwich.
Hardly anybody else about.
Later, just when more folk were starting to fill the place, I managed to get 13/1 about Kriskin with him.
It was a long , uncomfortable stand in there, and I couldn't actually see the finish.
Fkn awful place for viewing! I had to ask some bggr who had won!
What a queue to get the loot! As soon as I did, I pushed my way out of the place and headed down to the town. Feet felt red hot, but I was happy!
Oh yeah, Barry paid out no problem, but, another hard looking bookie was near going to fight me, saying "don't argue with me, you prat!"
Hard looking chap, who just seemed to be doing pay-outs. 'Cos he ripped and ditched the ticket straight away I never did know if I got done or not.
I always felt he'd stitched me up, but, I didn't really care too much: My bet with Barry was bigger, and he paid out no prob.
Don't tell me that's the old days,

Elite. Seems like last week; I must be getting old.
